Great Midwest Bank partners with SHARP Literacy

November 11, 2019 By: Great Midwest Bank

Simply Giving, Great Midwest Bank’s charitable initiative, is excited to add another amazing organization to its list! GMB will be partnering with SHARP Literacy to promote education in Milwaukee, Racine and Waukesha schools. Simply Giving has partnered with a wide range of charities, and is now proud to be involved with one that focuses on enhancing the learning experience of over 8,500 students in 41 urban schools.

SHARP Literacy was founded in 1996 as an arts-based literacy program designed to inspire and improve student achievement. Over 20 years later, SHARP has expanded beyond the classroom, partnering with community organizations including Marquette University, Fiserv and the Milwaukee Bucks, and the Brewers Community Foundation. The Great Midwest Bank team is excited to be included in this group of organizations, working together to benefit our community.

“Through our Simply Giving outreach program, Great Midwest Bank is driven to make a difference in the community we serve by partnering with philanthropic organizations,” said Dennis Doyle, president of Great Midwest Bank. “We have been extremely impressed by the work of SHARP and are thrilled to partner with SHARP’s team to help improve our community.”

Great Midwest Bank and ESPN Milwaukee are partnering together to amplify SHARP’s message about the importance of literacy skills for urban youth. They will focus on generating awareness for SHARP educational programs such as Marquette Golden Eagles men’s basketball team’s “Reading with the Golden Eagles,” “Design Through Code” with Fiserv and the Milwaukee Bucks, and SHARP’s Summer Learning Program, supported by Ryan Braun and the Brewers Community Foundation.

“We are so thankful to Great Midwest Bank for helping us connect all of our important partners in a way that will foster growth for our organization,” said Lynda Kohler, president and CEO of SHARP Literacy.

SHARP’s unique approach has led to demonstrable outcomes, increasing knowledge important to reading comprehension and allowing students to discover a love of learning, and Great Midwest Bank is excited to be a part of it!
