A Year of Simply Giving

January 28, 2020 By: Great Midwest Bank

Our Simply Giving initiative is changing lives for the better in our community. By giving back, we believe we deepen our relationship with our customers. It also gives our Great Midwest Bank team opportunities to get out of the office and participate in meaningful volunteering events, serving our community in a different kind of way.

Volunteer, educate, donate” is the mission behind Simply Giving, and we’re thrilled that so many Great Midwest Bank employees embrace it with enthusiasm. Since its launch, we’ve partnered with a variety of local organizations to lend a hand, educate communities, and help raise donations. In 2019, we volunteered over 265 hours and donated almost $31,000 to a variety of charities.

We’re so proud to support organizations doing incredible work like Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, Habitat for Humanity, and Feeding America. The following are some highlights from 2019.

Toy Drive

We wrapped up the 13th Annual WSSP Toy Drive to benefit Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin in December 2019. We’re proud to have partnered with 105.7FM The Fan for this year’s WSSP Toy Drive. A big thanks to everyone who donated this year! You helped raise over $200,000 in toys and donations, making it a wonderful success.

Feeding America

Great Midwest Bank employees donated nearly 80 service hours this past year debulking potatoes, sorting frozen meats, and more at Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin

Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin is the leading hunger relief organization in the state and has food banks located in both Milwaukee and Appleton. Their work helps to eliminate the statistic that 1 in 10 people in eastern Wisconsin are facing hunger.

Habitat For Humanity

Our team grabbed their hammers, work gloves, and matching t-shirts to help Habitat for Humanity. Their vision is to build “a world where everyone has a decent place to live.”

We think that’s a beautiful mission, and we look forward to helping more with Habitat for Humanity in the future.

Camp Hometown Heroes

We’ve been lucky enough to serve two fantastic volunteer days with our friends over at Camp Hometown Heroes this past summer. This phenomenal organization provides a week-long overnight summer camp for children who have lost a parent, sibling or loved one who served in the U.S. military.

We spent our days cleaning, organizing, and preparing the grounds for the upcoming campers.

Garding Against Cancer

Great Midwest Bank is supporting Coach Greg Gard and the Wisconsin Men’s Basketball Team this season by donating to Garding Against Cancer. Garding Against Cancer was an initiative started by Coach Gard and his wife Michelle and has raised over $4 million for the fight against cancer.

You can learn more about Garding Against Cancer at gardingagainstcancer.org.

SHARP Literacy

We’re excited to add another amazing organization to the growing list of Simply Giving initiatives. Great Midwest Bank partners with SHARP Literacy to promote education in Milwaukee, Racine and Waukesha schools. SHARP is focused on enhancing the learning experience of over 8,500 students in 41 urban schools.

Casual For A Cause

Each month, we donate to a charity or local organization and in turn can wear jeans on Friday to ease into the weekend. Donations from Casual For A Cause go to a different charity each month, helping us ensure we’re giving back to as many local organizations.
